Seven To Eternity Review

King Gaming Review

Rick Remender, Seven to Eternity's writer, has a penchant for combining the grand, cosmic concepts of the superhero genre with a kind of pulpy sensibility, often to great effect. SEVEN TO ETERNITY is no exception; this book is full of action and spectacle but also has very human touches that make it worth investing in as storytellers themselves—and this first issue may be one of their best yet.

Rick Remender, Seven to Eternity's writer, has a penchant for combining the grand, cosmic concepts of the superhero genre with a kind of pulpy sensibility, often to great effect. For example: his run on Uncanny X-Force was one of Marvel’s best-selling books during its original run in 2011 and 2012.

Remender wrote some of Marvel's most popular characters—Wolverine and Captain America—and even got them into bed together (I'm talking about “real life” here). His work is notable for its unique approach to pacing and dialogue which makes each issue feel like an action movie waiting to happen.

His work on Uncanny X-Force was so successful that it inspired other writers such as Rick Remender himself who also contributed stories for that title as well as others like Fear Agent (2005), Black Science (2013) or Deadly Class (2014).

Seven to Eternity is a slower burner but never boring because it’s not just about what’s happening in this moment but where it could go.

The first few volumes are a slow burn, but never boring. It’s not just about what's happening in this moment but where it could go. This is a journey we’re on together with our heroes, and it's exciting to see where they go next.

The story also has some great characters who are easy to relate to and root for as they face off against evil forces that threaten their world. It's not just about the destination; it's about how we get there too!

I’ve been looking forward to SEVEN TO ETERNITY since catching wind of its development last year, and I’m pleased to say that it was well worth the wait.

SEVEN TO ETERNITY is an epic fantasy series with a diverse cast of characters, all of whom are caught up in a war between two ancient gods: the Eternal Emperor and his brother Ahkmenrah. The series centers around seven heroes who have been chosen by the gods to fight this war, but each character has their own motivations for doing so—and they aren’t always driven by altruism.

The story kicks off right away as our first protagonist Adam Osidis gets pulled into this conflict upon waking up on a ship after being rescued from drowning by his childhood friend Zia Rashid (who happens to be one of the other Chosen). From there we learn about their adventure together alongside fellow hero Kel Cheris who is tasked with leading their army against an invading force from beyond known space called “The Seven Kings.”

Even if you're not into Westerns or fantasy/epic-style books, SEVEN TO ETERNITY has plenty of quality material to hold your interest.

Even if you're not into Westerns or fantasy/epic-style books, SEVEN TO ETERNITY has plenty of quality material to hold your interest. The premise is simple: after a bar fight lands Adam Osidis in jail for murder, he and his friends are offered the chance to go on an adventure that will take them across the sea—to another world!

Adam's journey takes him through a war torn city where he meets the magical being known as Aarzak who grants him one wish for helping him defeat his nemesis. What will Adam choose? That depends on whether or not he lives long enough to make it back home...

Remender builds up the character dynamics, stakes and lore very well over the course of this issue.

There are two types of comics readers: those who love the big, bombastic event comics and those who enjoy smaller character-driven stories. If you’re in the latter camp and have been looking for an awesome team book that focuses on the dynamics between its cast, I highly recommend Seven To Eternity. Remender builds up both these elements—character dynamics, stakes and lore—very well over the course of this issue. The artist Jerome Opeña also deserves credit as he draws some wonderful panels that really highlight his skills with facial expressions. This is a great first step into what is shaping up to be one helluva series.

One cannot ask for more in their first introduction to a new universe than what Remender and Opeña have delivered here in SEVEN TO ETERNITY #1.

The art is gorgeous, the colors are intense, and the writing is just plain fun. This is a series that absolutely deserves your attention, whether you're an old-school lover of wizardry or someone who's just getting into comics. If you like fantasy stories with great world building or comics with strong female characters then this one will definitely be up your alley! I highly recommend checking it out!

Conclusion

SEVEN TO ETERNITY #1 is a great start to what looks like it could be an exciting series. It has a lot of potential and I'm looking forward to seeing how Remender continues this story and develops the characters.
